The Commodore 116 is an economic variant of the C16, in fact compared to its brother it has a rubber keyboard much more uncomfortable to type and was produced only for the German market from 1984 to '86. Even this model was not very successful both for the inconvenience of the keyboard and for the whole 264 series which was neither compatible nor brilliant.<\/div>
The series 264<\/b>? yes this series consists of the C16, the C116 and the plus4 .. low cost computer, with a reduced number of chips, optimized memory and a color palette of 256. The big problem of this series is the incompatibility with its predecessors like the C64 and Vic20, not just with the software but with all the hardware.
To be so cheap, they have reduced the number of chips and to manage everything we find the CPU (7501 or 8501) and the TED (8370), the latter manages audio and video .. a decent level of everything, even if it manages more colors , it has no support for sprites and this weighs on the graphics processor.<\/div>
Another thing to say is that their economic construction was not limited only to the reduction of the chips but also to their construction and in fact today we find many CPUs and TEDs not working.<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

What do you do now?<\/span><\/h3>
Well the CPU is the most expensive to find and the problem can reoccur given its age and make.
It is possible to replace the processor 7501 with the 6510 used in the C64 but it will be necessary to adapt the pins and above all to change the Kernal with new instructions to manage the hardware differences on this computer. This is not a beautiful solution because even with the ROM with added instructions the computer will not be fully functional, the old CPU also controlled the datassette engine which the 6510 does not do and had inside the op codes not officially declared but that the programmers they used to save code loops and they don't exist on the 64 cpu.<\/div>
The alternative is to take an FPGA emulated processor or a board that uses these additional instructions in addition to the cpu.<\/div>
For now I have replaced it with an original one since at this moment with the semiconductor crisis the FPGA option is not available and that unfortunately it is only found in England and this also means customs !.<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
