  1. Commodore 64
  2. Floppy 1541
  3. Registratore
  4. Monitor

  • Goccia raccolta: 50 · goccia consegnata: 100
  • Insetto fritto: 100 · console riparata: 1000
  • Bonus (joystick, chip, floppy, logo C=): da 250 a 1000
  • Medaglia C=: 5000

Come avviarlo

Con l'emulatore VICE

  1. Scarica VICE e apri x64sc (Commodore 64).

Poi digita:

LOAD"RETROFIXER",8,1
RUN

RetroFixer and the Broken Console: level 6 with the NES to fix
Title screen Level 1: the Commodore 64 Level 4: the monitor and the falling capacitors The soldering iron fries a green bug The C= medal after the seven levels All seven levels

How to play

  • Joystick in port 2: right and left to walk, up to jump, fire to use the soldering iron.
  • Collect the drops of solder by walking over them and bring them to the broken console. You can carry them all at once: when all of them are delivered the console is fixed and you go to the next level.
  • Falling more than one floor is deadly. If you die, the level restarts with all the solder to collect again.
Green bug: fry it with the soldering iron (100 points).
Red bug: invincible, jump over it or avoid it.
Spark: goes up and down through the platforms.
Capacitor (from level 4): blinks at the top, then falls.
Electric fly (from level 5): flies across the whole screen.

Seven consoles to fix

  1. Commodore 64
  2. 1541 floppy drive
  3. Datassette
  4. Monitor
  5. Joystick
  6. NES
  7. Atari 2600

Then you get the C= medal and play again, with faster enemies.

Points and lives

  • Drop collected: 50 · drop delivered: 100
  • Bug fried: 100 · console fixed: 1000
  • Bonus (joystick, chip, floppy, C= logo): 250 to 1000
  • C= medal: 5000
  • Extra lives at 20,000 and 100,000 points, then every 100,000 (max 5)

How to run it

With the VICE emulator

  1. Download VICE and open x64sc (Commodore 64).
  2. Menu File → Autostart and pick retrofixer.d64 (or retrofixer.prg): the game starts by itself.
  3. No joystick? In the settings, under Input → Joystick, map port 2 to the cursor keys or the numeric keypad.

On a real Commodore 64

Copy the .d64 or the .prg to an SD2IEC, 1541 Ultimate or Kung Fu Flash, or write it to a floppy with XUM1541 / ZoomFloppy. Then type:

LOAD"RETROFIXER",8,1
RUN

Behind the scenes

The whole game fits in 22 KB: 6502 code, 73 sprites and 155 redefined characters. RetroFixer is made of three overlapping sprites (two multicolor and one hi-res for the eyes and the soldering iron), music and sound effects run in a 50 Hz raster interrupt, and the seven consoles are drawn with three-colour multicolor characters.

Game, code and music: RetroFixer, with the help of an AI assistant (Claude). The character sprites are adapted from a Fix-It Felix Jr. sprite sheet (Disney Animation Studios), ripped by KarateKid1212 (The VG Resource).
